Existing Project

90MW Orapa Power Plant – Botswana

Scope of Project Management

KS Energy Africa successfully commissioned the power plant using its in-house engineering and technical specialists, working in close collaboration with the project stakeholders and the Original Equipment Manufacturer. All performance and reliability acceptance tests were carried out jointly by GE Vernova, International Energy Group, and KS Energy Africa to verify that the plant met the required operational and performance specifications.

Following commissioning, the facility was placed into operation as a peaking and emergency generation plant, providing reliable, responsive power to support grid stability and supply security.

The plant can achieve rapid start-up and grid synchronization within approximately 15 minutes, enabling the dispatch of up to 90 MW of generation capacity when required.

KSE manages plant operations through structured operational control procedures, including daily availability declarations, performance monitoring and reporting, and weekly and monthly operational reconciliations to ensure accurate performance tracking and compliance with operational requirements.

In addition, on-site laboratory testing is conducted to monitor fuel and water quality, ensuring that operational parameters remain within equipment specifications and manufacturer guidelines.

Since achieving Commercial Operation Date (COD), the plant has demonstrated strong operational performance, maintaining a cumulative availability of 98.32%.
